Cassandra opened her apartment’s front door, and faced the man she hadn’t seen in over a year. She controlled her expression with steel far beyond her seventeen years, burying her feelings deeper, deeper.
“Cassie,” the middle-aged man said. He moved forward awkwardly, as if to embrace her. She stepped aside quickly.
